Travel Journal: Beautiful Brighton

Move over winter, short days and freezing nights. Spring is officially here, days are longer, people are happier and there’s really no excuse to stay in. As soon as the weather got slightly warmer I felt the urge to spend my days outside, travel and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
My most recent travel to Brighton was completely unplanned and, honestly, it didn’t require any prep. Just get your sunglasses, happy mood, good company and you’re all set!

Even though it’s only an hour away from London, you wouldn’t get the rush and fast-paced vibe typical for the Big Smoke. On the contrary, the atmosphere in Brighton is lively and energetic but lacks that ‘eat-sleep-work-repeat’ vibe. Both residents and visitors take the time to actually stop, enjoy the music, the sun and sea. No wonder it’s been called ‘The happier place to live in the UK”!

As a city famous for diverse communities Brighton loves its independents. Be it quirky shops, small galleries or family-run restaurants, you can find incredible gems here, from fashion to food to music and beyond.
Speaking of food, if you’re anything like me, you HAVE to try the ice cream here. There’s nothing better than having a scoop of bubblegum, white chocolate and caramel praline by the beach.
For the cake lovers out there I recommend Cloud 9’s signature rainbow cake. Make sure to stop by there for some of the best cakes, ice creams and milkshakes in Brighton.

For those who want to be good and keep it healthy, I recommend Silo – gorgeous zero waste restaurant, bakery and coffee house with a mouth-watering menu.
Close to the seafront is The Lanes – retail and leisure area famous for its quirky narrow alleyways and a fabulous place to find unique clothing, jewellery and antique shops.
One of my favourite walks in Brighton was along the West Pier Arches which boasts a range of wonderful little art galleries and studios, designer outlets and cafes. I happily spent at least half an hour in one of the tiniest little shops, flicking through a pile of the independent titles it stocked (think Kinfolk, Cereal, Suitcase mag and the like). Favourite gallery? Two Kats and a Cow, where you can find everything from prints and paintings to ceramics and jewellery.
And of course, you can’t miss the iconic Brighton Pier and Ferris wheel. The view from up top is beyond spectacular at any time of the day and I honestly felt like I was in a scene from the O.C.

Need I say more? Next time the sun’s out, jump on the train & go explore.
